Jennifer Johnson
Let your hands create beauty.

Before coming to Ajijic, Jennifer had a long career as a ceramic artist and mosaicist, creating both useful and beautiful objects from clay and designing and implementing significant public art installations across California. Her ceramic sculptures and one-of-a-kind tableware pieces are in public and private collections in the US, Europe, and Mexico.  She is particularly proud of a commission to create a set of dinnerware for Ambassador and Mrs. Walter Annenberg that is on display in Southern California’s Sunnylands Center.  Another signature project is the 20,000 square foot Fountain of Life, the centerpiece of the Cathedral City Downtown Plaza; its major elements are carved from Cantera stone from Jalisco and covered with Mexican mosaics.  Several visits to select the stone at the quarry and monitor its carving in the Tonalá stone-yard led to her first trip to Ajijic more than 20 years ago.

Early in her career, while creating her own work, Jennifer began teaching pottery and mosaics, both in in her studio and in workshops in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and Urbino, Italy.  Now, she offers the same quality of instruction and support to anyone who wants to learn a new skill or join the growing community of artists and artisans in Ajijic.
