Comedy Sketch Writing Class - Like to write? Like to laugh? Wednesday Sept. 11, 18, 25 and Oct. 2nd, 9th and 16th at 10:00 am to 12:00pm
West Campus 1st. Floor
Wednesday Sept. 11, 18, 25 and Oct. 2nd, 9th and 16th at 10:00 am to 12:00pm
In this six week workshop, participants will learn to write 3-6 minute sketches with the goal of putting on a show at the end of the class term. You will learn the “basics” of formatting your sketch. You will learn various “types” of sketches by looking at skits from Monty Python, Carol Burnett, Key and Peele, Tracy Ulman, SNL and others. We will also look at the various “structures” of putting a sketch together and of course we will employ many different methods of finding comedic ideas. We will do “free writing” in class and do “table reads” of sketches that have been performed as well as those that you have written. Comedy is hard but it is also FUN. So bring a notebook and/or your laptop and let’s get writing! And don’t forget to bring your funny bone. You know where it is, don’t you? Right next to your Humerus! C’mon kids! Let’s put on a show!
Frank Lynch is a student of comedy. He has been writing skits and sketches for community theater and radio for over twenty years. He has taken classes from The Comedy Lab. Second City and from writers for Monty Python, the Tracy Ulman Show and others. Last year, a group of five people wrote over 40 skits which turned into a show that sold out two months in advance. The Lake Chapala Community is eager for comedy. Let’s give it to them!
