Lakeside, Jalisco — January 2026 — Following a series of highly regarded 9th Anniversary concerts presented over recent months at Lakeside Little Theatre and the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera (Auditorio), Mariachi Real Ajijic returns to the stage with Mariachi Juvenil Ajijic for a special community performance: Mariachi Meets Santana, presented as part of Concerts in the Park on January 25.

Celebrating Youth, Education, and Cultural Legacy

Mariachi Juvenil Ajijic is the performance ensemble of the Escuela de Mariachi Pedro Rey, Ajijic’s local after-school program dedicated to preserving mariachi music for future generations. Students learn the history and theory of Mariachi while developing the musical skills needed to keep this vital cultural tradition alive at Lakeside.

The school operates under the direction of Daniel Medeles, founding director of Mariachi Real Ajijic, a visionary musician whose leadership has been central to the group’s artistic growth and community impact.

Artistic Direction & Original Orchestrations

Special recognition is given to Juanpi Medeles, whose original orchestrations are central to the identity of this concert. His arrangements create a thoughtful and compelling fusion between traditional mariachi and the music of Santana, offering a contemporary interpretation while honoring the genre’s cultural roots.

Juanpi’s work stands out not only for its musical sophistication, but also for its social and environmental sensitivity. The program includes the his own writing El Llanto de la Michicihualli, an original composition reflecting sorrow over the exploitation and contamination of Lake Chapala and the overuse of surrounding hills. The piece evolves musically from grief to hope, conveying a message of responsibility, protection, and optimism for the lake’s future.

A Concert with Purpose

The January 25 performance offers the Lakeside community an opportunity to experience this celebrated production in an open, welcoming setting. More than a concert, the event highlights education, youth mentorship, cultural preservation, and artistic collaboration — reinforcing the belief that music can unite communities and inspire future generations.
